Alumina ceramic gray pottery means that the pottery is gray or gray-black. This is at the later stage of the kiln to control the fire and form a reducing atmosphere. Due to the lack of oxygen in the kiln, the iron oxides in the clay are converted to ferrous iron, and the pottery is gray or black. Grey pottery is the most common and generally rough.
Painted pottery is painted on the pottery before the pottery enters the kiln. After burning, there are colors such as tincture, black and white. The human face fish pattern basin at the Banpo site in Xi'an is an example.
White pottery, that is, white pottery, was only found in the late Neolithic period, mainly because the iron oxide content in the pottery clay was small, and the interference of some pigments appeared white.
Painted pottery is also colored. The difference between it and painted pottery is that the pottery is fired and then colored. Because the color has not been baked, it is not firmly bonded to the body, and it is easy to fall off. Terracotta Warriors and Horses unearthed in Xi'an belong to painted pottery.
Black pottery refers to the shiny black pottery mainly found in the matriarchal clan society. This is done in the late stage of roasting with thick smoke, so that the carbon particles in the smoke infiltrate, and the gaps in the pottery are filled to give a black color. Some of the walls in black pottery products are as thin as eggshells and are called "eggshell pottery", which is very precious.
