Alumina Ceramic foreign-funded enterprises are an important force in China's polystyrene production. In the production of polystyrene in China, foreign-funded enterprises occupy an important position. Among the five largest domestic polystyrene manufacturers, three are foreign-funded enterprises, namely Zhenjiang Chimei Chemical Co., Ltd. (300,000 tons/year), Yangzi BASF Styrene Co., Ltd. (142,000 tons/year) and LG Ningbo Yongxing Chemical Co., Ltd. (100,000 tons/year). In 1999, the total polystyrene production capacity of these three companies reached 542,000 tons, of which high-impact polystyrene/universal polystyrene was 500,000 tons, accounting for half of the country's total production capacity. In the future, the polystyrene production capacity of Chinese foreign-funded enterprises will continue to grow rapidly. It is estimated that by 2005, the polystyrene production capacity of foreign-funded enterprises will exceed 1.4 million tons, accounting for nearly 60% of the country's total production capacity, and will remain an important force in China's polystyrene production. Electronics/electrical appliances are the most important consumption areas of polystyrene in China. In developed countries, the main consumption area of polystyrene is packaging containers, which account for about half of the total consumption. In my country, the main consumption area of polystyrene is electronics/electrical appliances, accounting for about 60% of the total polystyrene consumption. In 1999, China's electronics/electrical industry consumed a total of 1.46 million tons of polystyrene resin, accounting for 60% of the country's total consumption, and daily necessities and packaging accounted for 24% and 10% respectively.
