Silicon Nitride Ceramic:

Silicon nitride has high mechanical strength. Generally, the flexural strength of hot-pressed products is 500-700 MPa, and the high can reach 1000-1200 MPa. The flexural strength after reaction sintering is 200 MPa, and the high can be 300-400 MPa. Although the room temperature strength of the reaction sintered product is not high, the strength does not decrease at a high temperature of 1200 to 1350 °C. The high temperature creep of silicon nitride is small. For example, the reaction-sintered silicon nitride has a load of 24 MPa at 1200 ° C, and its shape becomes 0.5 % after 1000 h. The silicon nitride ceramic has a small friction coefficient. Under the condition of high temperature and high speed, the friction coefficient is also increased by a small amount, so that the normal operation of the mechanism can be ensured. This is a prominent advantage, and the silicon nitride ceramic begins to rub against the grinding friction. The coefficient is 1.0 to 1.5. After precision running-in, the friction coefficient is greatly reduced and kept below 0.5, so the silicon nitride ceramic is considered to be a material having self-lubricity. The main reason for this self-lubricity is different from graphite, boron nitride, talc and the like in the scale structure of the material structure. It is under the action of pressure, the friction surface is slightly decomposed to form a thin film, so that the sliding resistance between the friction surfaces is reduced, and the smoothness of the friction surface is increased. The more friction, the smaller the resistance, the less the amount of wear, and most materials, after constant friction, soften due to surface wear or temperature rise, and the friction coefficient tends to increase gradually.
