Silicon Nitride Ceramic:

The silicon nitride powder and the sintering aid are placed in a graphite mold and unidirectionally pressed and sintered at a high temperature. Since the applied pressure increases the driving force of sintering, the α→β transition and the densification speed are accelerated. The hot pressing method can obtain a high-strength silicon nitride ceramic having a density of more than 95%, which has high material properties and a short manufacturing cycle. However, this method can only produce a product having a simple shape, and the processing cost is high for a component having a complicated shape, and the structure has a preferred orientation due to one-way pressurization, so that the performance is different in parallel and perpendicular to the hot pressing surface. In the gas pressure sintering, the Si3N4 compact is sintered at 1800 to 2100 °C in nitrogen gas of 5 to 12 MPa. Due to the high nitrogen pressure, the decomposition temperature of Si3N4 is increased, which is beneficial to the use of a sintering agent capable of forming a high-refractory intergranular phase to improve the high-temperature properties of the material. The mixture of silicon nitride and sintering aid is powdered into a metal or glass envelope, vacuumed and sintered at a high temperature by a high pressure gas. The commonly used pressure is 200 MPa, and the temperature is 2000 ° C. The hot isostatic pressure silicon nitride can reach the theoretical density, but the process is complicated and the cost is high.
